EYE-TRACKING SPECIALISTS Tobii Technology demonstrated its prototype eye-controlled laptop for The INQUIRER at CeBIT.
In the video above you'll see Tobii's test model of its eye-tracking laptop. It uses an optical sensor below the screen to monitor and cleverly track what your eyes are looking at and focusing on.
In the demo Tobii shows us some of the functions that you can operate with your eyes. So far these includes things like auto scrolling, cursor control, recognising gaze patterns and gaming.
The laptop on show was using a 30Hz sensor, which worked fairly well, but also on display was another monitor that had a 300Hz sensor, which was much smoother and more responsive.
As you can see from the video the laptop has been enlarged to fit the technology in and that makes it pretty heavy at around 5 or 6kg.
Tobii must now look to dramatically reduce the size and weight of the components and shrink the cost to bring the product to market.
